Amazon, the retail content and web services giant, has just announced their new blockchain product together with Kaleido, the startup from the blockchain leader Consensys. The announcement was made at the Web Summit in Lisbon.
Amazon Web Services is a cloud-computing platform; offering paid a subscription for individuals to cloud-based services. They are leading a successful partner-based strategy, where different AWS partners help the end users building the services on their platform. AWS is currently one of the biggest and most profitable branches of Amazon’s offering. They have been looking into serving the growing blockchain world and announced their partnership with Kaleido in May 2018.
AWS Blockchain Partners
Kaleido is a blockchain startup launched by the Consensys network, based on the Ethereum blockchain. It is a marketplace of plug-and-play services to help blockchain project go from concept to working product easily.
Due to the shortage of skills in the industry, many great companies struggle to get their blockchain platforms up and running. On the Kaleido marketplace joined by AWS potential customers can find ready-made tools as HD wallets for privacy, smart contract oracles, ID registries for organizational identity and now AWS integrations.
The platform built in cooperation with Amazon aims to explore more than just the distributed ledger in enterprise services.
According to the Steve Cerveny, Kaleido co-founder and CEO:
“The reality is only about 10 percent of an enterprise blockchain project is the blockchain itself. There are many other application, data and infrastructure components required to go into production. I’m very excited that we have a whole cloud of blockchain technologies pre-integrated for our clients to use. The Kaleido Marketplace is a one stop shop for all things enterprise blockchain.”
The cooperation with Kaleido puts Amazon in an early advantage to help to deploy blockchain solutions for their existing customers. This is a lucrative market opportunity, as according to PWC 84% of enterprises are already exploring blockchain solutions. The blockchain offering of such a trusted partner as Amazon with the easy-to-use Kaleido marketplace could significantly speed up deployment in a wide array of companies. On top of that, their joint solution brings new blockchain companies to the Kaleido marketplace and direct them to AWS computing solutions.
